Mount Holly Citizens for a Progressive Future
On June 3 we the citizens of Mount Holly will have a unique opportunity to change our community in a very positive way. We are looking to expand our group to over 2,000 people. It is important that we reach as many Mt. Holly citizens who would....
support our efforts to provide Mt. Holly with a new positive image, increased economic prosperity and improved quality of life. On June 3 we will go to the poles and vote for 6 issues that will help us to reach our goals in each of these areas. Here is what we will vote for on June 3:
1. $2.7 Million in Bonds for infrastructure improvements to the Downtown Area and
Catawba Heights, which will greatly improve the image of the city, attract new businesses and improve the quality of life Specifically it will include new underground utilities, new and improved sidewalks and landscaping of all thoroughfares in the immediate area.
2. $2.3 Million in Bonds for Parks and Recreation improvements for 2 new parks, one from downtown to the Catawba River along the railroad and a second Gateway Park along the Catawba river at the Highway 27 bridge where the I-485 connection enters Mount Holly.
3. 4 Alcohol Issues to attract new restaurants, retail, and entertainment facilities to
downtown and surrounding areas. 3 to legalize on and off premises sale of beer, wine and mixed beverages, all of which are necessary to attract up-scale restaurants and new retail to the community. 1 to operate an ABC store in Mt. Holly, which will bring revenue to the City to help pay for further infrastructure improvements and lessen the need for tax increases. Due to strict state controls, alcohol sales do not cause an increase in crime or alcohol-related crime. This has been the experience of cities which have recently passed alcohol laws, including Belmont and Kannapolis.
When you are contacted by a member of this committee please be willing to assist us in your immediate neighborhood by contacting your neighbors who you know would support all of the items on the June 3 referendum. It will only take a few minutes of your time but it will bring positive change to our community to last a lifetime. We will not have another chance to accomplish these goals. Mount Holly deserves an opportunity to do this for ourselves and to demonstrate to other communities how to do it the right way. If you have questions or want to volunteer you may call Bob Suttenfield (704) 827-8265 or go to our Website mounthollyvision.org. Place your question on the appropriate link and you will receive an answer. Look for additional future dates of meetings that will provide you more in-depth information on all of these referendum items.
